On August 5th 2016, 11,000 athletes from 42 sports and 205 nations will proudly march into the world famous Maracanã Stadium for the Opening Ceremony of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. For the first time in history, the Olympic and Paralympic Games will take place on South American soil and Rio 2016 will deliver Games of passion and transformation for a new world.
As such, Brazil has adopted a Visa Waiver Program for the upcoming Olympic Games in Rio 2016 and the summer months. This presents a great opportunity to explore the many facets of this country. The Visa waiver has been extended to those residing in Australia, Canada, the United States and Japan (a host of other South American and European countries are already exempt – learn more). The waiver is valid only for trips that take place exclusively in the period between June 1st and September 18th, 2016.
