Established in 1956, Timbavati Nature Reserve Reserve shares a common unfenced border with the Kruger National Park allowing animals free range and ensuring that guests have an opportunity to view the greatest diversity of wildlife that South Africa has to offer. With 54,000 hectares of land, there are various research projects running in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, all focused on conservation. Previous and ongoing research efforts have resulted in an extensive individual elephant identification database, as well as identifying some very interesting changes in the understanding of the genetic makeup of the local lion population and specifically of the white lions that occur naturally within the Timbavati.
