After exploring some of the best parts of Peru, I flew to Buenos Aires, Argentina and had the morning to myself to relax before my walking tour of the city. On the tour, I visited several neighborhoods such as the center of the city, San Telmo, La Boca, Puerto Madero and Palermo, with stops in Plaza de Mayo, Caminito and La Recoleta. It’s an amazing city because you get to see a fusion European influence and Latin American culture, history and architecture.
After exploring some of what the city had to offer I got to watch a tango show. Buenos Aires is well known for its incredible and passionate tango dancers, so it is a real treat to be able to watch the time-honored traditional dance in action. Afterwards I spent the night at a beautiful boutique hotel, CasaSur Recoleta, which is conveniently located right near shops, restaurants and art galleries so guests can easily explore and meander during their leisure time. They also have a great spa and bicycles that guests can use for free.
The next day, I caught a flight to Iguazu to see Iguazu Falls from the national park on the Argentina side. It is also possible to see the falls from Brazil. The falls are incredible, and I spent the whole day there. Visitors to the falls can experience the surrounding jungle by truck and watch the falls cascade down from a boat, but prepare to get wet. You can experience views of the falls up close or from a distance for the full panorama. It is among the largest falls in the Americas, and is truly breathtaking!
I spent the night at leisure at La Cantera Jungle Lodge, which has a really nice pool and jacuzzi with a good amount of private space. It is also close to the restaurant, which is nice to have on hand after a long day. It is private enough that this is a good place for couples to stay for a romantic experience, yet has many family-friendly features as well (including wi-fi).
As much as I enjoyed the beauty of the jungle, national park, and incredible waterfalls, I was excited to get to Patagonia the next day. I flew into El Calafate in the Argentinian side of Patagonia. El Calafate is home to Los Glaciares National Park where some of Patagonia’s most impressive glaciers can be found, including the infamous Perito Moreno glacier.
After spending most of the day getting to El Calafate, I had a night to myself to prepare for my first time in the national park and at Perito Moreno, where I did a mini-trek and enjoyed a whiskey on glacier ice, Afterwards I checked into Patagonia Queen, a boutique hotel located near the city center and close to local restaurants. It was the perfect, cozy place to rest up before crossing the border into Chile, where I would see even more of Patagonia’s natural beauty and taste some delicious wine, too. Stay tuned to hear about my time in Torres del Paine and some of Chile’s greatest wine spots!
