Tour Overview
Experience all that the marvelous and enchanting Taiwan has to offer with a week long exploration of this flourishing island country. Begin in the bustling capital of Taipei where new meets old, seamlessly combining to create this contemporary metropolis. Continue to the more tranquil countryside of Yuchi Township, home to the Country’s largest alpine lake. Here one can explore the lake via bicycle or foot with the many paths surrounding the lush area, then take to the local hot springs to melt away any tiredness one may have. Learn about Buddhism during the monastery walking tour in Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Monastery before heading to Taiwan’s second largest city, Kaohsiung. Admire the nearly 37 miles of coral-rimmed shoreline within Kenting National Park at the southern tip of the island. Venturing to the eastern coast, admire the eroded landscape of Taroko National Park, before heading back to Taipei for a farewell to the Taiwanese capital.

After breakfast, enjoy a tour of Taipei city, which includes the impressive Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, National Palace Museum, where 5,000 years of Chinese imperial arts and jade collections are exhibited, Martyrs' Shrine of traditional architecture and change of Honor Guards, a local Taiwanese temple, and Taipei Handicraft Center. The remainder of the day will be free to explore independently.

This morning, be picked up at the hotel lobby in Taipei City and then drive to Sun Moon Lake. It is located in the middle of Taiwan, situated 762 meters above sea level in the lofty mountains of Central Taiwan. The tour will stop at the famous Wenwu Temple, also known as Literature-Warrior Temple, dedicated to Confucius as Master of Pen and to Kuan Ti as Master of Sword, Holy Monk Shrine and Ci En Pagoda. Here, learn about Buddhism during the monastery walking tour to visit "Buddha Memorial Center" and communicate with some of the monks or nuns during the visit. After breakfast, visit to Taroko National Park. Taroko Gorge is an exceptionally beautiful, narrow ravine created by the Liwu river which has cut deep into the mountains of solid marble. A road carved into sheer walls of rock winds through forested peaks and cliffs towering thousands of feet above it, while hundreds of feet below, a river roars past gigantic marble boulders. Pass by Tunnel of Nine Turns, Ci Mu Bridge and stop at Swallow Grotto and Changchun Temple (Eternal Spring Shrine). Taipei
This marvelous city is an inspirational destination with a gorgeous blend of South East Asian, Chinese, Japanese and Western influences, all coming together as one to offer a truly unique experience. Located on the northern end of the island, Taiwan’s capital is home to roughly 2.6 million inhabitants. While visiting, travelers enjoy taking in the atmosphere of some of the local markets as well as visiting some amazing landmarks. Some major points of interest include The National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hal, the famous Symbol of Taipei, Taiwan, as well as the Republic of China. Take a ride up to the observation deck of Taipei 101, an outstanding architectural feat recognized as the worlds 9th tallest building. To get a more traditional feel of the city, visit one of the handful of temples within the area, or make a stop outside of the city to relax in the Wulai Hot Springs.

Located in central Taiwan, Yuchi is home to Sun Moon Lake, Taiwan’s largest alpine lake. Cycle around the shimmering blue waters along the many bike trails taking in the sheer mountains surrounding the area and the lush banana trees and bamboo growths. Venture to the top of the The Tsen Pagoda to take in the heavenly views of the lake before letting your aches wash away from climbing the many steps while soaking in the natural hot springs.

Taroko
Taroko National Park is one of eight major National Parks in Taiwan. Carved out by the Liwu River, the park owes its namesake to the famous marble Gorge whose impressive relief draws in travelers and explorers alike. Featuring many hiking trails, explorers can venture through the park through the various terrain. Make a stop at one of the various points of interests within the park such as Swallow Grotto, where one can see the great depth of the park’s gorge as well as witness the swallows whose homes are within the cliff side.

The second largest city of Taiwan is located on the southern coast of the Island. Known for its harbor, Kaohsiung is known more commercially than for tourism but is an overlooked destination that should not be missed. This world class port welcomes an endless amount of ships daily, representing the energy and vitality of the growing metropolis. Visit places of interest such as Pier 2 Art District, Fo-kwang Shan, one of Taiwan’s largest Buddhist monasteries, ChiHou Lighthouse, and TianHou Temple to name a few.
