Starting November 21, Brazil is opening up an electronic entry visa application to an Australian tourist wishing to visit the country. The new electronic document issuing system must issue the visa within 72 hours of the request being made by the tourist. The benefit is also valid for business trips.
In January of next year, the electronic system will be available to Canadian, American and Japanese tourists! Dates have already been set for each country: Canada, Jan. 8; United States, Jan. 15, and Japan, Jan. 22. Prior to the electronic system, tourists from these countries have had to spend ther time and money travelling to Visa Centers and Brazilian consulates in their country of origin to apply for entry visas in Brazil.
According to the Minister of Tourism, Marx Beltrão, reducing visa bureaucracy is a form of tourist attraction for Brazil. The expectation of the MTur is that the measure will increase the entry of foreigners in Brazil by up to 25%, according to data from the World Tourism Organization. “Visa facilitation aims to reduce bureaucracy and, above all, boost the entry of foreign tourists into Brazil,” said the minister.
