After breakfast, we will start the tour in the capital of Armenia: Yerevan. For ages this city has been known as a "pink city" because of the color of the stone it has been built with. We will visit Republic square, Mashtoc Avenue, the House of Opera and Ballet after Aram Khachatryan, and the park "Cascad". Then we will visit the Manuscript Museum of Armenia, which is called Matenadaran; here is where all ancient Armenian Manuscripts are kept. Today, we will take a trip to the region of Aragatsotn. Then we will visit the family castle of the Pahlavouni Princes at Amberd, one of the few castles in Armenia that has been preserved. We will visit the Church and fortress of Amberd, built on a rocky promontory in the Middle Ages and situated near Mt. Aragats (4091 m above the sea level) and the Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory. Have your breakfast at the hotel then we will have trip to Aruch Cathedral, Talin and Mastara Church. Gyumri is the second largest city in Armenia. Gyumri is situated on the banks of the Akhurian River in Shirak province. In Gyumri we will visit the history museum located in a historic Armenian house and the former home of the wealthy Zitoghtiants family, who were famous for their baths and brewery. Today we will visit two unique monuments of Armenian architecture of X-XIV centuries: the monasteries of Sanahin and Haghpat which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Literally the name "Sanahin" in Armenian means "this one is older than the other," which probably means that this monastery is older of than Haghpat. These two monasteries are very close to each other and can be easily seen from one to the other. Both are located on an uneven plateau, separated by a deep crack formed by a small river that flows into the river Debed. Haghpat Monastery was one of the largest religious, cultural and educational centers of medieval Armenia. We will also visit the monastery of Akhtala, which has fantastic scenery. Today, our tour continues to Alaverdi. Then we will visit the medieval Monastery of Haghartsin. The refectory of Hagahrtsin is very unique. There are a number of very interesting khachkars (cross stones) in the Monastery. Drive to the monastery of Goshavank. It was founded in the 13th century by a very famous writer and educator Mkhitar Gosh. It used to be an educational center and formerly was called "Nor Getik", but after the death of its founder it was renamed as "Goshavank" in honor of the famous scientist. Today, we will drive to Lake Sevan, which is one of the largest lakes in the world. It stands out with its astonishingly blue water. Here, we can enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the beautiful lake. Then we will visit Sevanavank Monastery which is situated on Sevan Peninsula. There are 2 monasteries actually; one of them is destroyed but the other stands still. They have been built in the middle Ages, around 10th century. This morning, we will start our trip having the first stop at the statue of Grandmother and Grandfather, which has become the symbol of Nagorno Kharabagh. We will continue the tour visiting the monastery of Gandzasar. Ganzasar Monastery is one of the most important architectural monuments of Artsakh and the entire historical Eastern Side of Armenia. It is said that the head of John the Baptist id buried here. Visit the bazar in Stepanakert for tasting Jingjalov hac, the national meal of Artsakh. Today, we will visit the city of Shushi in Armenia to visit the Monastery of Ghazanchetsots (19th century), Tank (1993) and the Shushi liberation monument. We will then proceed to the hotel at Goris.

We will start our trip visiting the monastic complex of Tatev. The complex was found within the ages of 9-13th C. Formerly it was a very famous educational center in Armenia and all famous contemporary scientists and philosophers were educated there. It used to accept students from abroad as well. Visit the cave village of Khndzoresk. We will explore the ancient observatory of Karahunj quite similar to Stonehenge in England. The columns sit like soldiers on a hill. The 204 stones near Sisian have been ascribed with mystical, fertility and cosmic powers, but rarely have ancient monuments caused such a sensation in astronomical circles. This morning, you will have your city tour in Jermuk. Then take a trip to Noravank monastery of XII century situated among amazing sheer rocks on the bench of a twisty gorge. This is the only monastery where we may find a unique sculpture of Father God. After Noravank we will visit the village Areni which is considered to be an important center of wine production industry. You are welcome to taste its excellent wine. Then drive to Khor Virap Monastery (4-18th cc.). This monastery is very prominent because of its history; Gregory the Illuminator, who introduced Christianity to Armenia, had been imprisoned there for about 13 years as at that time there was a prison in the place of the monastery. We will start the day with an excursion to centuries-old monuments Ejmiatsin and Zvartnots. These sites are listed on UNESCO World Heritage list. The Cathedral of Ejmiatsin, founded in 303, is the official residence of the Catholicos of Armenia. We'll continue the trip to Zvartnots Temple, which was built on 7th century by Nerses Builder Catholicos. We will then head back to Yerevan where we will visit Vernissage; the famous open-air market of contemporary art. Overnight in Yerevan.

After breakfast, you will depart to Garni for a tour. This Pagan Temple was built in the 1st century AD. It is the only temple that has been preserved from the Pagan times in Armenia. It was devoted to the god Mihr, who was the god of cleanness. In 1679 it was destroyed by an earthquake. In the 1975 the Temple was restored. Then We will continue our trip to Geghard Monastery. Its name came from the legendary lance that was used to pierce the body of Christ. It has been kept here for centuries. Though the exact foundation of the monastery is unknown, the present complex was built in the mid - 13th century. Afterwards we will visit a local house where you will have the chance to see and participate in the preparation of Armenian national bread: lavash. It is a very thin bread sold in very large forms. It is usually cooked in a ground oven: "tonir". Recently it has been recognized as non-material heritage of UNESCO. Head back to Yerevan for an overnight at hotel. ...read less
