Machu Picchu reopened up its gates to tourism on November 1st with new safety protocols. The Ministry of Culture reported that the archaeological site now has a reduced capacity of 675 people per day, as a health prevention measure against the spread of covid-19.
Public and private institutions involved in the operation of tourism in the area are implementing biosecurity protocols to guarantee the health of visitors and residents.
This good news adds to the recent reception of the Safe Travels seal, the world’s first safety and hygiene seal for tourism against covid-19, delivered to Peru on October 13 by the WTTC (World Travel & Tourism Council).
Also, Machu Picchu enters the list of archaeological sites in Cusco opened since October 15: Sacsayhuaman, Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Chinchero, Moray, Pikillacta, and Tipon. The archaeological sites will have the necessary security measures and will start their operations with a capacity of 50% of visitors.
Likewise, the opening of tourist attractions and museums in the cities of Lima, Lambayeque, and Chiclayo has also been announced.
We are pleased to report this news, which suggests the return of tourist activities and contributes to the cultural and economic reactivation of the country. We will keep you informed about upcoming news, always based on the official information offered by the authorities.
