Lima- Cusco

At the appropriate time, you will be met at your hotel and privately transferred to the airport for your flight to Cusco.

Upon arrival to Cusco, you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel.
The elevation in Cusco is approximately 3400 meters (11200 feet), so we highly recommend resting as soon as you arrive for a few hours and avoiding alcohol, caffeine, or heavy meals. Please consult with your physician for additional details.
Cusco is the oldest continuously inhabited city in the Americas and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The ruins of the old Inca city became the foundation for the Spanish architecture you see today, and many of the stone walls that line the streets were built by the Incas.

After check-in, visit San Blas square and enjoy lunch in a lovely garden appropriately called Greens. If one happens to be lunching here on a Sunday, one will be treated to their famous roasted chicken lunch. After lunch, stroll down to the hotel to have a few hours to rest and acclimate.

Note: Check in to the hotel is at 3 pm. Early check-in may be available directly at the hotel, subject to availability. You may store your luggage at the hotel until you can check-in. ...read less

Walking Tour of Cusco

This morning, enjoy a private walking tour of Cusco, where you will visit the Korikancha Temple, or Temple of the Sun, and the Cathedral and its Art Museum. During your tour today, you have the option to visit the Casa Concha museum or the San Pedro Market. The Casa Concha museum was recently renovated and houses over 360 archaeological pieces from Machu Picchu, recently returned by Yale University. San Pedro Market is a lively, local market where you will receive a briefing about the local Andean ingredients and have an opportunity to purchase them. This market visit is a great opportunity to interact with the locals selling or purchasing items from the market.

This afternoon there will be time for lunch (lunch not included) before continuing to the nearby water shrine of Tambomachay (the Inca Fountains), Puca Pucara (the Red Fortress), the amphitheater of Kenko, and finally, the Sacsayhuaman Fortress. Sacred Valley

Today, get an early start to see the Sacred Valley as few tourists ever do. Drive through the Sacred Valley and enjoy the landscape while passing by small, local villages. Today, the tour begins at a mountain base where one will climb up into a small Andean village named Patabamba at 16,000 feet.

The Peruvian Andes are where the potato originated, and over 3,000 kinds grow in Peru alone. Continuing the trek into Patabamba, the first stop will be to visit a group of women who practice a traditional form of weaving, running their textile business with production goals with costs and profits. Also, visit a local home to see how they live and how to cook an essential part of their diet, potatoes!

This afternoon, head down the mountain and travel toward Pisac to enjoy a box lunch with the locals and spend the afternoon meandering through the popular Pisac Market, an indigenous Indian market.

Culinary Lesson in El Huacatay

Today, transfer to El Huacatay for a culinary lesson on preparing Novo Andino Cuisine, a recent international culinary trend. Novo Andio Cuisine is a fusion cuisine style, first inspired by Bernardo Roca Rey and Don Cucho la Rosa in the early 1990s. The cuisine aims to create a delish eclectic combination of cultures from Spain, Africa, China, and Japan that have all contributed to Peru's culinary history. Chef Pio Vasquez de Velazco is the owner of El Huacatay, one of Urubamba's best restaurants and well known for its Novo Andino menu.

Upon your arrival at Cusco, you will head to the Sacred Valley of the Incas to acclimatize. On your way, visit the archaeological vestiges in Maras and Moray. Maras is a surreal view. It is near Moray, and it is an impressive complex for the exploitation of salt mines. Its huge salt deposits were used for trading for other products with other parts of the empire. Moray's archaeological vestiges are composed of mysterious concentric circular terraces, which, according to some scholars, would be an agricultural research center. The higher external terraces would be at a higher temperature than the inner ones and could simulate the conditions of various ecological strata of the empire.

When the tour is over, you will enjoy your snack and return to Cusco. Lunch at Wayra Ranch. Rich soil, ideal weather, and millenary wisdom have combined to make the Sacred Valley arguably the most fertile in the world. You will become a believer as you indulge in its bounty. Delight yourself with a surprising gastronomic feast led by the prominent Chef, Pedro Miguel Schiaffino and Nacho Solis. The Peruvian Paso horse has the smoothest gait in the whole world. Stunning equestrian demonstrations, to the rhythm of marinera music will render the environment favorable for tasting their cuisine's quality.

Machu Picchu

At the appropriate time, you will be met at your hotel and transferred to the train station.

Check-out at the hotel is at 10:00 am. Late check-out may be available directly at the hotel, subject to availability.

You may store your luggage at the hotel until you are ready to leave for the train station. There is a luggage restriction of one small bag (5kg / 11lb) per person on the train to Machu Picchu. We recommend storing your luggage in your hotel in Cusco and only carrying the items you will need for your visit to Machu Picchu. If you stay the night at a hotel in the Sacred Valley, Yampu will organize the luggage transfer of your extra luggage from the Sacred Valley to your Cusco hotel.

The train will take you through the Sacred Valley of the Incas up to the town of Aguas Calientes. From here, you will board a bus to Machu Picchu and then have a private guided tour of the ruins. Machu Picchu, the Lost City of the Incas, was a flourishing ceremonial and agricultural site, probably the gateway to the jungle marshes of the Inca Empire. The central buildings were erected with the Cusco Imperial style's polished stone works, though the site was probably occupied well before the Incas started their expansion. It was associated with the earth cult revolving around the coca leaf, which was a privilege of the Inca royal family and priests. Enjoy lunch at the Sanctuary Lodge, at the entrance of the ruins, before returning to your hotel at your leisure. In the evening, enjoy a wonderful dinner at the hotel or in the town of Aguas Calientes.

Check-in at the hotel is at 1:00 PM. Early check-in may be available directly at the hotel, subject to availability. You may store your luggage at the hotel until the time you can check into your room.

Bursting with architectural history and culture, Lima has an eclectic array of attractions. Visit the Santo Domingo Convent, a religious and artistic staple of the city’s historic center. Take a walk along the cliffs of the Miraflores district, showcasing the beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean, and after, enjoy some shopping at the Larcomar Mall.

    Cusco

Once a powerful Incan city, Cusco is filled to the brim with relics of its grand history. Visit the ruins of the ancient Incan Koricancha Temple, where the Church of Santo Domingo now stands atop. Behold the many beautiful, colonial buildings in the Main Square, including the Cathedral and Church of La Compania de Jesus (Society of Christ).

  • Machu Picchu

Recently, following UNESCO recommendations, Peruvian authorities have placed restrictions on the visitation of Machu Picchu, the lost Incan ruins. Currently, no more than 2,500 people daily will be allowed to visit the ruins. While these new restrictions are great for the preservation of the ruins, they may cause some difficulties in your ability to visit them, so we recommend booking with plenty of notice.

  • Sacred Valley

The Sacred Valley of Peru is a breathtaking tapestry of majestic Andean peaks, fertile farmlands, and ancient Inca ruins steeped in history. Known as a cradle of spirituality, this region radiates a mystical energy, drawing travelers to its sacred temples and vibrant indigenous markets. Picturesque villages like Pisac and Ollantaytambo showcase the enduring traditions of the Quechua people, while terraced hillsides and the Urubamba River weave through the valley’s natural beauty. Whether for adventure or quiet reflection, the Sacred Valley offers a profound connection to Peru’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage.

Machu Picchu is just an amazing structure

Our holiday has started off really nicely so far – lovely hotels, good guides and well organized – thanks to you and your team! Machu Picchu is just an amazing structure, and we were pleased that the kids managed to walk the entire lower trail without too much fussing! The guide was thankfully patient, and I think that the attraction of the lamas at the end helped them to incentivise them to get to that point. Boy, the 28 hour journey home was arduous! It’s so wonderful to be home, though. Thank you soooo much again for making the trip so fantastic and memorable. We’d definitely recommend you to our friends who wish to make the sojourn. A few have already expressed their interest.

Our whole trip to Cuzco and Machu Picchu was fantastic.

I just wanted to drop you a quick note thanking you again for the excellent package you put together for Nancy and myself last week. Our whole trip to Cuzco and Machu Picchu was fantastic. Our Machu Picchu tour guide deserves special thanks. She was extremely knowledgeable and we had a lot of fun with her. Were it not for her coaching me, step by step, all the way down the death stairs on Huayna Picchu, I might still be up there looking for a place to live. She really went over and above the call of duty and is a fantastic lady. Thanks for putting together such a great trip for us!

Going with my son was pretty special because we enjoyed so much together and wanted to see all we could.

A father son trip to Peru. On Cusco: It was fascinating to see the spinning, coloring and weaving process which is a lot more than a person realizes. I bought a baby Alpaca sweater which means it was made from the first shearing which is the softest Alpaca wool and it was extremely reasonable and definitely the real deal. On Machu Picchu: we were shocked of how big this place was It’s truly a mystical place and we had beautiful weather in this rainy season. On the hike to Montana WaynaPicchu: We started climbing at 7:00. The fog was so thick we didn’t know if it would clear. We wandered through several of the lower dwellings overlooking the river and the valley. . . we could imagine what it would have been like to wake up looking out those windows. It’s no wonder this is one of the new 7 wonders of the world. We felt special knowing that only 200 people a day get to see this view and we had perfect weather. We had to crawl through a tunnel and up a wood ladder and then we were on the very top of the mountain scattered with big boulders. It’s a sight we will never forget. After enjoying the view of a lifetime we headed down and it was quite a feat to come down the steep stairways without tripping. That climb will always be one of the highlights for us to remember. Going with my son was pretty special because we enjoyed so much together and wanted to see all we could. I believe we will be going back to Peru in the future.
