The Hotel Locanda Vivaldi was inaugurated in late 1999 after a long and careful renovation work on this beautiful building, adjacent to the Church of the Pieta.
Here lived the composer Antonio Vivaldi, who in 1703 was ordained a priest and entered as a violin teacher in the Pieta conservatory, where he remained until 1740. After only six months of priesthood, Vivaldi is dispensed from saying Mass, while not leaving the habit cassock.
He was nicknamed “the Red Priest” and Goldoni let us know that the reason for this nickname was his flame-red hair. According to other sources, this name derives instead from his stay at the Istituto della Pieta, as the “daughters” of this hospice, his pupils, wore scarlet
