Reforest Patagonia

Through Reforest Patagonia, we donate one tree for every client booked to the [Chilean Patagonia] for the reforestation efforts in Torres del Paine. Reforest Patagonia is a non-profit, public-private alliance with a single objective; to recover one of the world’s most important ecosystems. We love hugging trees, but now you can hug an entire forest!

For every Yampu adventurer traveling, we make a donation of $7 to IGOTA in his or her name. These contributions help create benefits and educational opportunities for the locals, strengthen the drive towards responsible tourism management, and promote high professional standards for the industry.

We are proud members of Pack for a Purpose, an initiative that allows travelers like you to make a lasting impact in the community at your travel destination. If you save just a few kilos of space in your suitcase and bring supplies for area schools or medical clinics in need, you’ll make a priceless impact in the lives of our local children and families. If you are going to Peru, Yampu has adopted a school there called the Phiri School; you can bring things for these kids and we will get the supplies to them or you can go yourself to hand deliver them. What you buy makes a difference. Always look for items from local artisans and support the local economy.

Like bringing home a rainbow: Traditional Andean weavings are rich with color –created by artisans who tell age-old stories in the textiles. Live and Breathe Peru by learning of ancient pottery and weaving techniques to see the craftsmanship firsthand and purchase some detailed handicrafts with a new appreciation for the beautiful works.

A hat-tip to the Panama hatters in Ecuador who created the iconic chapeau. Wow your pals with souvenirs. Plan the next trip together! Following Machu Picchu I spent a few days in the Sacred Valley. I could have easily spent many more days here. I barely tapped the surface of enjoyment exploring sights and markets and simply walking in the hills behind the hotel. I was able to visit a local elementary school in a hill village and see the incredible faces of Peru’s future.
