How to Combine Giving Back with the Gift of Travel
By Ellen Lutwak
While ‘tis the season reveled for giving, Yampu Tours is proud to be recognized for giving back all year round. Topping our list: contributing to the local economy of our destinations, a core commitment to responsible travel.
Reforest Patagonia
By traveling to Chilean Patagonia with Yampu, you’ve already made the choice to travel responsibly. Through Reforest Patagonia, we donate one tree for every client booked to the [Chilean Patagonia] for the reforestation efforts in Torres del Paine. Reforest Patagonia is a non-profit, public-private alliance with a single objective; to recover one of the world’s most important ecosystems. We love hugging trees, but now you can hug an entire forest!
International Galapagos Tour Operators Association (IGTOA)
Imagine surprising your family with the gift of travel to one of the top destinations for multi-generational journeys. With Yampu Tours, an excursion to the Galapagos Islands is not only a feel-good adventure, but a do-good commitment as well.
Yampu Tours is a proud member of the International Galapagos Tour Operators Association (IGTOA), an organization dedicated to responsible travel in the fragile ecosystem of the Galapagos Islands.
For every Yampu adventurer traveling, we make a donation of $7 to IGOTA in his or her name. These contributions help create benefits and educational opportunities for the locals, strengthen the drive towards responsible tourism management, and promote high professional standards for the industry.
Pack for a Purpose
We are proud members of Pack for a Purpose, an initiative that allows travelers like you to make a lasting impact in the community at your travel destination. If you save just a few kilos of space in your suitcase and bring supplies for area schools or medical clinics in need, you’ll make a priceless impact in the lives of our local children and families. Please click the Pack for a Purpose logo to see what supplies are needed for our project. If you are going to Peru, Yampu has adopted a school there called the Phiri School; you can bring things for these kids and we will get the supplies to them or you can go yourself to hand deliver them. This project is near to our hearts and hope it will be to you also.
Local, Local, Local
What you buy makes a difference. Always look for items from local artisans and support the local economy.
Like bringing home a rainbow: Traditional Andean weavings are rich with color –created by artisans who tell age-old stories in the textiles. Live and Breathe Peru by learning of ancient pottery and weaving techniques to see the craftsmanship firsthand and purchase some detailed handicrafts with a new appreciation for the beautiful works.
A hat-tip to the Panama hatters in Ecuador who created the iconic chapeau. Wow your pals with souvenirs. Plan the next trip together! Yampu’s sample itinerary of Absolute Ecuador is prime trip example of exploring Ecuador’s rich culture and heritage with several market stops throughout the region including the town of Otavalo, home of the largest indigenous market of its kind in South America.
Explore with local Yampu guides who take tremendous pride in showing visitors their cities or country-sides. Many of our guides have worked with us for several years – and they are a part of our Yampu family.

Following Machu Picchu I spent a few days in the Sacred Valley. I could have easily spent many more days here. I barely tapped the surface of enjoyment exploring sights and markets and simply walking in the hills behind the hotel. I was able to visit a local elementary school in a hill village and see the incredible faces of Peru’s future. Yampu knows the country inside and out and were able to direct me to the right guides, hotels and sights. -Yampu Traveler Mary F.
