TIBET

The "rooftop of the world"

Tour Tibet, a land of rugged snow-capped landscapes, religious traditions, and unparalleled adventure, enchanting culture enthusiasts and trekkers alike. Occupying one eighth of China’s territory, Tibet is a massive region that people from around the globe flock to experience traditional Tibetan Buddhism and perhaps conquer the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest. Experience the Potala Palace, once the seat of the Tibetan government and the winter home of the Dalai Lama. After walking the shops of locally made crafts, relax, breathe in the crisp clean mountaintop air, and take in the uniquely peaceful and spiritual mountain views.

Well over 3,000 meters in elevation, Tibet’s capital city, Lhasa, offers a spectacular and gigantic palace that is only rivaled by the beauty and magnitude of the surrounding mountain vistas. Outside of the city, find a spreading landscape of rolling hills, sacred turquoise lakes, rural villages and the towering snowy fields of the Himalayas.

In Tibet, Yampu offers tours to the cities of Lhasa, Gyantse and Shigatse, as well as an excursion to the base camp of Mount Everest. Combine these tours for the trip of a lifetime, or choose to enjoy just one or two of the highlights as they can easily be added on from New Delhi or Kathmandu.

Be in the know before you go

US citizens must obtain a visa prior to arrival, and have a passport with at least six months’ validity remaining. The lack of either will result in a fine and immediate deportation. U.S. citizens traveling to China can apply for a ten-year multiple-entry visa, useful for repeated travel or trips to Hong Kong or Macau with returns to China. This visa may be in an expired passport if the traveler also carries a valid passport.
The Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR), requires special permits for tourist travel, most often obtained through your travel consultant. If you do enter a restricted area without the requisite permit, you could be fined, taken into custody, and deported for illegal entry. To learn more about specific entry requirements for Tibet or other restricted areas, check with the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China.
If you encounter problems in Tibet, the U.S. government has limited ability to provide assistance, as the Chinese government does not usually authorize U.S. government personnel to travel there, even to provide consular assistance to U.S. citizens.

High Altitude Sickness in Tibet
Oxygen content in air becomes relatively thinner when the altitude gets higher, for instance: when entering into Tibet by plane, you cannot get acclimatized to the new environmental condition very quickly and your body may feel uncomfortable symptoms. Symptoms of high altitude sickness usually are headache, dizzy, asthma, fatigue, insomnia etc. Some people who suffer from hypertension and heart problems should pay more attention to HAS. But if you treat HAS carefully, it can be avoided.
Preventions for HAS
Lacking of oxygen at high altitudes is the basic reason for suffering from HAS. Many places in Tibet have canned oxygen for sale. You may buy one or two when in need. If your symptom is not serious, you’d better not take oxygen, but below methods may prove helpful.
• At the beginning of your arrival to Tibet, you should better not eat or drink too much because it’ll increase the burden of your digestive system. You’d better not smoke or drink alcohols and eat more things containing rich vitamins like vegetables and fruit etc.
• Don’t walk too fast or run. You’d better drink more water and take a good rest.
• Wear warm clothes and add a thick quilt to prevent catching cold. Because catching cold is one of the reasons for causing acute pulmonary emphysema of the highland.
Don’t increase psychological burden to yourself.
