The Peruvian Ministry of Culture has made some changes to the regulations for entry times, hiking excursions & guide requirements in Machu Picchu. These new rules go into effect on July 1, 2017. Note that the Ministry is still finalizing the details so these are subject to change. Planning your visit to Machu Picchu through a tour operator will help you to ensure you have the proper permits and plenty of time to get the most out of your trip without missing out because of changing regulations. Learn more here and see the new regulations below.
- Entry into Machu Picchu is permitted between the hours of 6:00-12:00 & 13:00-17:00. Clients will have a maximum of 4 hours to complete their visit. Clients who enter the site with less than 4 hours until closing time are still required to exit at 16:30; no additional time will be permitted.
- Machu Picchu Mountain Trek & Huayna Picchu Mountain Trek: Clients who are participating in one of these hiking excursions will have an extra 3 hours to complete their visit (in addition to the 4 hours mentioned above).
- Every client must be accompanied by a guide to enter the site. This also applies to any clients who will re-enter the next day; guide service is required for every visit.
