Located on the state borders of Arizona and Utah, the red sandstone desert region is famed for its towering rock formations that have served as a popular backdrop for many western movies. Formed by thousands of years of erosion, Monument Valley’s earliest settlers, the Ancestral Puebloans, date as far back as 1200 BCE. The Navajo people then settled the land next, centuries before the Spaniards in 1581. Today, nearly 300,000 descendants of the Navajo people live in the Navajo Nation. Visitors can appreciate the Navajo culture through their history, learning of their ways of life, and appreciating their art and cuisine.
