Tour Overview
On this combined tour of Botswana and South Africa you will begin by enjoying a safari by land and boat through the Okavango Delta and the Moremi Game Reserve. Leaving Botswana, transfer to Cape Town where you will explore the city and its majestic surroundings before embarking on a guided road trip along the captivating Garden Route. While on the road you will have the chance to explore the many beaches, national parks and attractions at your own pace.
The 16,000 square kilometers of wetlands that is the Okavango Delta is the final destination of Africa’s third longest river. It is here that you can stalk herds of elephants, hippos, or buffalo along the shoreline as you drift silently through the reeds upon your guided mokoro (indigenous canoe). A motorboat cruises, nature walks, and game drives are also available, where, each morning, you can track Africa’s most famed animals during their hunt for prey. In this colorful setting thriving within the reaches of the Kalahari Desert, you will experience a part of Africa like no other.
The Moremi Game reserve encompasses the eastern expanses of the Okavango Delta, and therefore provides a stark contrast within its boundaries of dry land that divides and separates its many vast wetlands. The only protected region of the Delta, Moremi is home to some of the most dense wildlife populations in the country, but most notably known for the abundance of large predators, in which you will have the chance to track from water and land based game drives.
Following Victoria Falls, you will fly to Cape Town. Your days here will be spent exploring the culture and history of the city and its surroundings. You will also engage in a full day tour of the Cape Peninsula, which involves stunning views, long golden beaches, the jackass penguin colony, and the Cape of Good Hope – Africa’s most southwestern point. Your final day will be spent in the winelands, north of Cape Town, touring the many vineyards and wineries that are making South African wines some of the most popular in the world.
The Garden Route is recognized for its seemingly never-ending stretch of forests, coastline, beaches, marine life & game reserves as well as the picturesque towns and villages along the way. Beginning in Swellendam, you will then transfer to Plettenberg Bay, where, aside from its dramatic rocky peninsula and sweeping golden beaches, you will experience some of the best dolphin watching in the world, not to mention other activities from surfing and kayaking, to horseback riding. The route will end at Port Elizabeth, where you will join a safari in the Addo Elephant Park.

Heading north to Paarl, the first stop this morning is at Anura Wine Estate for a cheese and wine tasting. Then the tour makes its way to Franschhoek, with a photo stop en route, at the Groot Drakenstein Prison where Nelson Mandela was released in Feb 1990. The village of Franschhoek nestled amongst the mountains, can easily be mistaken as being in Switzerland. After a short tour of the little town, a second wine tasting will take place in Franschhoek, followed by a lunch stop (optional – own account), and maybe a chance to try some of the fresh trout that Franschhoek is known for. After lunch the tour continues over the Hells Hoogte Mountain Pass to Stellenbosch. It is easy to understand why Simon van der Stel decided to settle a village amongst the mountains. The backdrop of the Hottentots Holland Mountains, the white gabled Cape Dutch homesteads and the oak lined streets and lanes all blend in to give this place a charm that will not be forgotten. Time permitting; there will be a third wine tasting. Return to Cape Town with amazing photos and fond memories. ...read less

Elephant Sanctuary
The Crags, Plettenberg Bay, has African elephants and offers an interactive elephant experience, elephant back riding and overnight accommodation. They offer hands-on educational elephant interactions. This provides guests with a far more intimate experience with the elephants. The dedicated staff are committed to the use of positive reinforcement elephant training methods and as a result they have relaxed elephants that enjoy interacting with guests.
Next, begin the Full Elephant Introduction in Forest. Touching and interacting with Elephants. Walking hand-in-trunk with Elephants. Feeding (Limited Elephant Food included). Includes Elephant Back Riding. The opportunity to purchase a DVD of the experience with the Elephants (Excludes Cost of DVD).
After the elephant interaction concludes, move on to the Birds of Eden Day Tour. In 2010 the species count at Birds of Eden is just touching 220. The bird inhabitants of the aviary comprise a mixture of exotic as well African birds. They also include previously caged pets and hand reared and imprinted individuals, this explains why some of our inhabitants (especially the parrots of which we have 60 different species) are unafraid of human beings and seemingly tame. All new arrivals at Birds of Eden go through a process of rehabilitation before they enter the actual sanctuary of the main aviary. Be they ex pets, or birds confiscated from zoos or irreputable breeders, most of the birds that arrive at Birds of Eden have a history of being caged in small environments.
This area is full of thriving animal sanctuaries. Finally, leave Birds of Eden and depart for Monkeyland, where wou will be touring. Monkeyland is the world's first free-roaming multi-species primate sanctuary (located in The Crags, near Plettenberg Bay). We offers tours (we call them monkey safaris) during which more than 550 primates comprising of capuchin monkeys, ringtail and black-and-white ruffed lemurs, saki monkeys, squirrel monkeys, vervet monkeys, 2 species of langur, howler monkeys, gibbons, etc will be seen in their forest home. Then, experience the 128-metre suspended canopy walk whilst on tour. There's also a restaurant, souvenir store, and viewing deck. Safari guides are multi-lingual.

The trip you set up for me was flawless.
The trip you set up for me was flawless. The guide met all my expectations. He was helpful and protective. I did learn that in Africa, time is a relative thing. I soon learned that when James told me we were one half hour from anywhere, I could count on an hour. I saw every major animal, but one, including the Black Rino, one of the most endangers specie in the Crater. I took 900 pictures. I can tell you without a doubt, that your people can take care of a person my age and should promote that fact. I loved Nxabega. However, I was prevented from going to my tent for a rest when a family of Elephants started eating the trees between the lunch area and my tent. They were all first rate camps, but Sopa was exceptional. If you wish me to fill out anything, let me know. One funny story. I needed to go to the bathroom. James asked me to wait while he drove about a half a mile to high ground, so he could watch out for animals while I attended to the problem behind his 4×4. As we get to about fifty yards from the place we planned to stop; three lions walked over the hill and past our vehicle. You would be surprised how fast the urge to go disappears under these circumstances.

I highly recommend Yampu as a company and Karolina in particular as an agent.
Karolina Guilcapi at Yampu Tours has provided excellent service for me and my brother on two separate trips, one to Mexico last August and, more recently, South Africa (and Botswana and Zimbabwe) last month. In particular on the South Africa trip she worked closely with me to combine and fine tune a number of their tours. I appreciated her recommendation to go to several game reserves and parks, rather than a lot of time at one. And my brother had some last minute complicated logistics (scheduling an all-day teleconference in the middle of our trip and rescheduling his flights when he missed his original flights) for which Karolina was instrumental in coordinating. I highly recommend Yampu as a company and Karolina in particular as an agent.

Can’t think of a single thing we didn’t love about the whole experience
Can’t think of a single thing we didn’t love about the whole experience. From the phone conversations with Yampu to the representatives who met us at each airport and hotel everyone was great. And the properties they set us up with?! Amazing! Their own websites didn’t do them justice. Every day was better than the day before so every day you saw me was the best day of my life.
