Tour Overview

Visit Meru National Park, one of Kenya’s most under-visited, although beautiful, parks before you travel south to Amboseli for spectacular views of Kilimanjaro. Then, cross into Tanzania for remarkable game viewing at the Ngorongoro Crater, a large and un-flooded volcanic caldera formed by a volcanic eruption millions of years ago. This tour also includes a visit and safari of the popular Serengeti.

After a night in Nairobi, transfer to Meru National Park, one of Kenya’s best kept secrets and most underrated parks. Meru combines open savanna, with intense jungles, crocodile filled rivers, lush green grasslands and rolling hills. Not only a visual masterpiece, Meru is also home to many of Africa’s classic wildlife, not to mention an on site rhino sanctuary.

You will then transfer to Amboseli, via Nairobi. Amboseli, is a small, but distinct national park located in southern Kenya, along the border of Tanzania. What sets Amboseli apart from other parks, and also makes it the third most popular park in Kenya, is its backdrop Mt. Kilimanjaro and its diverse wildlife including antelopes, olive baboons, buffalo, cheetah, elephants, hippos, spotted hyenas, jackals, vervet monkeys, warthogs, and water birds.

The Ngorongoro crater is a large, un-flooded volcanic caldera which formed when a giant volcano exploded and collapsed on itself some two to three million years ago. It is 2000 feet deep and covers 100 square miles. The Crater is often called ‘Africa’s Eden’ and the ‘8th Natural Wonder of the World,’ and is a main draw for tourists coming to Tanzania as well as a definite world-class attraction. Within the crater rim exists large grazing herds of zebra and wildebeest, the endangered black rhino, and some of Africa’s large cats. The game viewing is truly incredible, and the topography and views of the surrounding Crater Highlands out of this world.

Serengeti is easily Tanzania’s most famous national park, and it’s also the largest, at 14,763 square kilometres of protected area that borders Kenya’s Masai Mara Game Park. Its far-reaching plains of endless grass, tinged with the twisted shadows of acacia trees, have made it the quintessential image of a wild and untarnished Africa. Its large stone kopjes are home to rich ecosystems, and the sheer magnitude and scale of life that the plains support is staggering. The annual wildebeest migration through the Serengeti and the Masai Mara attract visitors from around the world, who flock to the open plains to witness the largest mass movement of land mammals on the planet. More than a million animals make the seasonal journey to fresh pasture to the north, then the south, after the biannual rains.

The trip you set up for me was flawless.

The trip you set up for me was flawless. The guide met all my expectations. He was helpful and protective. I did learn that in Africa, time is a relative thing. I soon learned that when James told me we were one half hour from anywhere, I could count on an hour. I saw every major animal, but one, including the Black Rino, one of the most endangers specie in the Crater. I took 900 pictures. I can tell you without a doubt, that your people can take care of a person my age and should promote that fact. I loved Nxabega. However, I was prevented from going to my tent for a rest when a family of Elephants started eating the trees between the lunch area and my tent. They were all first rate camps, but Sopa was exceptional. If you wish me to fill out anything, let me know. One funny story. I needed to go to the bathroom. James asked me to wait while he drove about a half a mile to high ground, so he could watch out for animals while I attended to the problem behind his 4×4. As we get to about fifty yards from the place we planned to stop; three lions walked over the hill and past our vehicle. You would be surprised how fast the urge to go disappears under these circumstances.

I’ve been told more than once A++ so I’m thinking it was great. I’ll forward this to Paul. He’d love to tell you how much he enjoyed it. Apparently George Lucas among various celebrities have stayed at the Little Governors. He thought that was great.
