Old Havana Walking Tour

Private read more...

Private Walking Tour of Old Havana, including the Rum Museum.

Enjoy a private walking tour of Old Havana. Havana Vieja is the historic and colonial heart of Havana.

The main purpose of this tour is to familiarize you with this colorful part of the city. The walking tour covers the four most important squares, each with its own character and history.

The Plaza de Armas has a peaceful atmosphere with thick, tropical vegetation sheltering an antique book market. Impressive baroque palaces surround the square, such as the Palacio de los Capitanes Generales, now the Museo de la Ciudad, which houses a statue of Christopher Columbus under towering Royal Palms. The Plaza de San Francisco features impressive commercial buildings like Lonja del Comercio, with the main attraction being the Basilica de San Francisco. Plaza Vieja is surrounded by pastel-colored townhouses and is almost completely restored. The Plaza de la Catedral is home to the exceptionally beautiful Catedral de San Cristóbal, as well as important examples of early colonial architecture. All the squares are linked by historic streets such as Calle Obispo, which are like open-air museums containing historic shops and even a chocolate museum. You may also visit old hotels, such as the Ambos Mundos, where Hemingway wrote For Whom the Bell Tolls.

During the walking tour, visit the Rum Museum. Learn from local artisans about rum production and its rich history. You will have a chance to chat with local people and end with a tasting.

You will return to the hotel for your overnight stay.

Enjoy a panoramic tour in a classic American convertible. The route will vary depending on the weather and traffic. You will be picked up at a pre-arranged time from your hotel and typically travel past the impressive Capitolio building and along the city's famous Malecon seafront from Havana Vieja to the high rises and crumbling atmospheric streets of Vedado.

You will travel along 5ta Avenida (originally homage to New York's 5th Avenue) and head out to Miramar (where the mansions are now often embassies or ambassador's residences). You will visit the outside areas of the harbor fortress as a great way to end, with a panoramic view of the city.

At noon, you will be privately transferred (with guide) from your hotel in Havana to your hotel or particular house in Cienfuegos. Like Havana, Cienfuegos has a beautiful Malecon, where you can spend a peaceful evening watching fishermen cast nets and socialize with the locals.

Traveled August, 2010

I consider using your company again

The trip was fantastic. No complaints about the accomodations and I was truly impressed with the transportation arrangements. The guides from the various companies were courteous, polite and extremely helpful whenever a problem arose. The atmosphere on the Caribbean coast (Tortuguero) was completely different from that encountered on the Pacific coast (Guancaste), as was each location along the way. I honestly can’t say I preferred on spot over the others, though perhaps I was little more outspoken about the comforts of Arenal Springs compared to rest. The two beach spots along the Pacific were memorable for the ocean and all the things we did there. All the above said, I have no problem recommending your firm, and yourself in particular, to any of my friends and acquaintances regarding having you help them with their travel plans. Indeed, I have done so repeatedly today and will continue to do so into the future. It also goes without saying that I consider using your company again when Rosabel and myself start planning our next vacation or adventure trip.
