Tour Overview
See some of the most significant historic sites in the world with this Petra and Jerusalem Combo trip. Petra is considered one of the 7 Wonders of the World. The city is known as the “rose-red city, half as old as time”. This is because Petra is home to the magnificent remnants of the Nabataean city, dating back to the 6th Century BC. The city is now World Heritage site due to its historic relevance. There are so many marvelous things to see in the legendary capital of the Nabatean Empire. Travelers can spend multiple days exploring The Petra National Park that covers around 40 square miles. There are multiple ways to enter the city. The traditional entry to Petra is to walk through the mile-long winding chasm called the Siq. During this walk admire the extravagant colors of the sandstone walls, remains of the Nabatean shrines, water channels, wall carvings and some of the original paving stones. Once you reach the city, tour the Treasury, and see many carvings along the Street of Facades. Explore the Theater, Colonnaded Street, Byzantine Church, and the Petra Museum, with a collection of the very fine Nabatean pottery, ancient statuary and other artifacts. Learn about the religion of the Nabateans and understand what led to the creation of temples and cult centers on most of the mountain peaks ringing the Petra city center.

Spend the first full day touring in Petra. Start by walking through the Siq, a unique sandstone canyon, to enter into the Nabataean city. Admire the spectacular Treasury. Visit the Street of Facades, the Theater used by the Romans, and the Byzantine Church and Museum.

Spend the second full day touring in Petra. Try entering the ancient city by al Madras. Get a great view of Petra by visiting the High Place of Sacrifice. On top of this peak, there are elaborate rock platforms that were once used for sacrificing ceremonies. Continue on to Wadi Farasa, the Great Temple and the Royal Tombs.

Walk to the Baidha Neolithic site to visit one of man's earliest know agricultural settlements, over 9,000 years old. Continue hiking cross-country by Wadi Merwan, arriving by Petra's "back door" to ad-Deir (Monastery) Petra's largest carved facade.

Travelers will be picked up from Petra and dropped off at Allenby Bridge by Jordanian car. Then travelers must pay departure tax and take a shuttle bus to Jerusalem. Once in Jerusalem, travelers will be met by the second driver outside the terminal and drive to Jerusalem for drop off. The overall drive time will be around 4 1/2 hours.

Enter the Old City and walk through the Armenian and Jewish quarters to the recently excavated and restored Cardo, the Roman road. There are many archaeological sites throughout the city where more than twenty different settlements in Jericho have been discovered dating back to over 11,000 years ago. Today the city is in Palestinian Territories and is one of the areas largest tourist destinations.

Dead Sea
The Dead Sea is shared by Israel, Palestine, and Jordan. At 1269 ft below sea level, the Dead Sea is the lowest point in the world. The water is so salty that no maritime life can survive in its waters. The mineral rich mud on its shores is thought to have therapeutic benefits. Many visitors enjoy floating in the water, as it is almost impossible to sink because of the hypersalination.
