Upon your arrival at Cusco you will head to the Sacred Valley of the Incas to acclimatize.
On your way, visit the archaeological vestiges in Maras and Moray. Maras is a surreal view. It is near Moray and it is an impressive complex for the exploitation of salt mines. Its huge salt deposits were used to trade them for other products with other parts of the empire. Moray's archaeological vestiges are composed of mysterious concentric circular terraces which, according to some scholars, would be an agricultural research center. The higher external terraces would be at a higher temperature than the inner ones and could simulate the conditions of various ecological strata of the empire.
Lunch at a typical Peruvian restaurant.

Urubamba
Today, read more...
Today, you will visit the Ollantaytambo Park, stopping at various points of interest along the route.
Ollantaytambo is a typical example of the urban planning of the Incas, whose residents still live in accordance with their old traditions. Pachacutec (1438-1471) conquered the town, destroyed it and built a new one, absorbing it as part of his empire, and it is currently considered one of the most remarkable archaeological complexes of the Inca Empire. Today it has one of the most handicraft markets in all of Cusco.
Then, located at a 25 minute-distance, arrive to the rural community of Huilloc in the province of Urubamba, to perform a traditional Inca practice called Kusi Runa, in which you will participate in a day of Chakra (agriculture). A local interpreter will welcome you and guide you to the house of the owner of the Chakra, who will invite you to a muna infusion.
Symbolically be an integral part of the community, and as a community member you will be dressed with typical clothes of Huilloc (ponchos for men and blankets for women) and use traditional tools. Males will do farming while the women cook for them with local organic products, ending in a spiritual ritual with local music and dance. Therefore, you will have an excellent opportunity to live and experience the everyday way of seeing and acting of the Andean Runa (male). Enjoy a delicious local lunch with the community and then you will visit the Pisac market, which has scores of stands that exhibit and sell local products. You can find textiles, carvings and replicas of ancient Inca objects.
At the end of your trip, transfer to your hotel in the Sacred Valley. ...read less

In Aguas Calientes you can find a train station, a craft market, restaurants and hotels of different categories for those who prefer to spend the night at the foot of the mountain and climb it early. Finally, after a short transfer, reach Machu Picchu, a masterpiece of engineering and architecture that served as a sanctuary and retreat for the Inca ruler Pachacuti. Machu Picchu, which means "Old Mountain", is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New 7 Wonders of the World. Once in the citadel, you may optionally also visit the Intipunku (Sun Gate), the Wayna Picchu (subject to space availability) and the Inca Bridge. Enjoy a delicious lunch at Belmond Sanctuary Lodge. Start your tour today by visiting Coricancha, also known as the "Temple of the Sun", which was built by the Inca ruler Pachacuti and, upon the arrival of the Spaniards, became the base for the construction of the Santo Domingo Convent.
Here, during the Inca Empire, reverence was surrendered to the sun, and there was even time when the structure was covered in gold. Next, visit the Cathedral, the most imposing monument in Plaza de Armas square. The construction of the cathedral took almost 100 years to complete, beginning in the mid-16 th century. Hundreds of stones were extracted and transported from the Sacsayhuaman fortress under the command of the Ecclesiastical Council to use for the construction of the church.
Continue your tour to the fortress of Sacsayhuaman, a magnificent building conceived and built by Inca ruler Pachacuti in the 15th century. The Sacsayhuaman complex was built with megalithic blocks, the transportation and erection of which continue to be a fascinating mystery. The Inti Raymi Sun Festival is reenacted here every year on 24 June during the winter solstice.
Continue on to Quenqo, located only four kilometres from the city of Cusco. Quenqo is an archaeological complex of mainly religious use where it is believed agricultural rituals were performed. Finally, visit Puka Pukara, located seven kilometres from the city of Cusco. Puka Pukara, meaning "Red Fortress", was an architectural complex of alleged military use with multiple spaces, plazas, baths, aqueducts, walls and towers, and it is believed the entourage of the Inca ruler used the space while he rested in Tambomachay.
In the afternoon, you will experience a unique culinary experience overlooking the city's stunning historic downtown from the 11th floor at Rooftop Kitchen. The kitchen is equipped with modern utensils and contains individual kitchen stations where guests will learn to prepare typical Peruvian dishes with the freshest regional ingredients, experiencing a new way of knowing the incredible history and culinary tradition of Peru. First, visit the traditional San Pedro market where the class purchases will be made. You will begin with the preparation of Pisco Sour and will continue with the elaboration of the first dish based on fish. Continue with the preparation of the main dish: Quinotto de Quinua or Lomo Saltado. A magnificent opportunity to know the country through its flavors while enjoying the wonderful view of the Imperial City.
At the end of this gastronomic experience, you will return to your hotel. ...read less

Recently, following UNESCO recommendations, Peruvian authorities have placed restrictions on the visitation of Machu Picchu, the lost Incan ruins. Currently, no more than 2,500 people daily will be allowed to visit the ruins. While these new restrictions are great for the preservation of the ruins, they may cause some difficulties in your ability to visit them, so we recommend booking with plenty of notice.
